2019 Citroën Berlingo P20EE AdBlue Fault: Mobile Non-Start Call-Out
An expired AdBlue countdown left this 2019 Citroën Berlingo van unable to start. The owner contacted AdBlue Team, and we attended the vehicle to investigate the warning and diagnose the non-start condition.
Our diagnostic check identified fault code P20EE, which relates to the efficiency of the selective catalytic reduction system. Using advanced diagnostic equipment, we cleared the recorded fault and reset the AdBlue system, restoring the van’s ability to start.
The mobile visit took approximately one hour.

The problem: AdBlue countdown reached zero
The Berlingo’s AdBlue countdown had already expired before we attended. The van could no longer be started, leaving the owner needing assistance at the vehicle.
An AdBlue countdown is an important warning to address before it reaches zero. Depending on the vehicle and the condition detected, the emissions-control system can restrict restarting once the remaining distance has run out.
A countdown does not, by itself, identify which component or system condition is responsible. The exact warning message and diagnostic findings need to be considered together.
What does P20EE mean on a Citroën Berlingo?
P20EE generally indicates that the selective catalytic reduction system—usually called SCR—is not achieving the expected reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions.
AdBlue forms part of this emissions-treatment process. However, a P20EE code alone does not establish that the AdBlue tank, a NOx sensor or the catalyst needs replacing.
The complete fault description, any accompanying codes and the vehicle’s operating data help guide the assessment. Diagnostic procedures can vary according to the engine, model year and vehicle software.
For this Berlingo, P20EE was the code identified during our visit.
Mobile diagnosis of the non-start condition
Our attendance focused on the reported AdBlue warning and the van’s inability to start.
We connected diagnostic equipment and checked the recorded fault information. This identified P20EE and provided the basis for the diagnostic work carried out during the call-out.
Recording the code matters because an AdBlue warning can describe several different conditions. A low-fluid warning, a system-performance fault and a communication problem should not automatically be treated as the same issue.
AdBlue system reset and starting restored
Using advanced diagnostics, we cleared the recorded fault and performed an AdBlue system reset. Following this work, the Berlingo could be started again.
The confirmed outcome of this visit was that starting had been restored. The complete call-out took approximately one hour.
A fault-code clear or system reset should not be treated as proof that every underlying mechanical or electrical issue has been permanently resolved. If a warning returns, further investigation may be needed. Different vehicles displaying P20EE may require different work.
Why a diagnostic assessment matters
A fault code is a useful starting point, but it is not a replacement-parts list.
For a vehicle with an AdBlue warning or non-start countdown, a suitable diagnostic assessment may involve reviewing related codes, live readings, electrical connections, fluid delivery and emissions-system performance. The appropriate checks depend on the findings and the manufacturer’s procedure.
This helps distinguish the condition the vehicle has detected from assumptions about which part must have failed.
Citroën Berlingo AdBlue fault questions
Will topping up AdBlue clear a P20EE fault?
Not necessarily. Topping up addresses a low fluid level. P20EE concerns SCR performance, so a refill alone may not address the condition responsible for the warning. Follow the vehicle handbook’s refill instructions and arrange diagnosis if the warning remains.
Can an AdBlue countdown stop a Berlingo from starting?
Depending on the vehicle and the detected condition, an expired countdown can prevent restarting. That was the reported situation with this 2019 Berlingo. If your dashboard displays a countdown, arrange assistance before it expires rather than assuming the van will continue to restart.
Does P20EE mean the NOx sensor needs replacing?
No. The code alone does not prove a NOx sensor has failed. Its cause needs to be assessed using the complete diagnostic information for the vehicle.
Can every AdBlue non-start problem be resolved with a reset?
No. The work required depends on the cause. A reset does not repair a defective component, and a warning may return if the system detects an unresolved condition. In this case, starting was restored following the diagnostic work and reset described above.
How long does a mobile diagnostic visit take?
This visit took approximately one hour. Other jobs may take longer depending on the vehicle, access, fault condition and work required.
